We're finished building a new Bamboo and Cob House!
It took a while and we had some challenges but are happy to announce that as of September of 2015, the house is closed in and we've slept in it. What an experience and a fantastic feeling of sleeping there. Good energy and being surrounded by natural materials, being so comfortable in such a lush setting is what it's been all about.
After a full year of harvesting and preserving/processing the bamboo (Dendrocalamus Asper) from the farm, and building the house over the course of a year and a half, we're finishing up details and are moving ahead in our attempt to live from the sale of our added value products and from hosting retreats.
Now the house is available for yoga retreats and family rentals, in combination with our wood cabins and Lodge house.
Fincalegre is a naturally private and elegant place in the forest.

Building with Giant Bamboo

The Bamboo Process
Dendrocalamus Asper or Giant Bamboo grows on our farm. We use it for building greenhouses and now to build this new house.
We harvest and preserve the bamboo using salts, natural minerals that are non toxic and do not damage the environment or our health.
The process is heavy work and takes some time for the bamboo to be construction ready. This ensures it will last for a very long time.
We select the best pieces for structures and the tips and other parts of the bamboo are used in many other projects, or for scaffolding. We make posts, showers, paths, furniture, greenhouses, structures and all kinds of stuff using the very versatile giant bamboo. Dendrocalamus Asper is its scientific name. Finally, we stock the bamboo in a storage facility that helps cure and finish drying it. Now we're ready to get busy doing many projects with this dynamic, highly renewable giant bamboo.
